Family Favourites

Every family has that one favourite, that one cookie they can't go without year after year. For us it's Crunchies. I've heard them called haystacks by those who don't know their true name 😉  but for us they are, and will always be, Crunchies. Salty, sweet and *cough cough* crunchy. Perfect trifecta! Bonus, this is absolutely the easiest recipe you will ever come across! Standing on the playground waiting for my daughter I relayed this recipe to another parent who was concerned that his kids hadn't yet baked for the grandparents. Hopefully he gives it a try because these are a perfect treat for kids to prepare because you can avoid the stovetop all together if you use the microwave in short bursts.

I suppose Crunchies are also customizable thanks to all the different "chips" you can find now: peanut butter, mint, whatever! But I don't think I'll ever do anything but the classic: butterscotch and chocolate. And I always, always, use salted peanuts to make sure they don't get overly sweet. Everything is a 1-1 ratio. Melt the chips, mix in the rest, dollop onto sheet pans and chill. DONE! Doesn't get much easier than that!

Seeing as Christmas has 100% snuck up on me again! (every year!) I likely won't be back with another post until after the holidays so I will leave you with a big MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY 2017!! But I'll do my best to get back online before New Years. Until then I'll leave you with these:

Crunchies

1 Cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 Cup  butterscotch chips
1 Cup chow mein noodles
1 Cup roasted, salted peanuts

Line a sheet pan or two with parchment paper and set aside.

Melt the chocolate and butterscotch chips (either in a pan over low heat, a double boiler, or in the microwave in shorts bursts). Mix in the salted peanuts, and chow mein noodles. Spoon into small piles onto prepared pans. Place in fridge to chill.

I'd love to see what you've been baking so be sure to follow me on Instagram and tag your posts with #ragebake !
